MonoBridge maps the fastest path from where you are to where you want to be.
1Where you are
First, an honest fix on what the business is worth today.
There is no single way to value a business. Professionals use several standard methods and compare them. Each bar is one method’s answer, from its low end to its high end, for our sample business: a small business phone company: $2.65M in yearly sales, 7,800 phone lines.
Before you look: what do you think the sample business is worth?
- Its future cash, in today’s dollarsDiscounted cash flow$3.48M$4.31M
- What similar companies sold for, per dollar of salesRevenue multiple$2.80M$4.00M
- What similar companies sold for, per dollar of profitEBITDA multiple$2.21M$3.60M
- What similar companies sold for, per customerPer-customer multiple$1.77M$4.04M
- The least it’s worth: selling only the customer listFloor value$1.07M$2.00M
Value today: $3.93M
How to read it. Where the bars overlap is where the methods agree. The orange line is the value the evidence supports; the dotted line is your guess. The cash-flow method sets the value, because it’s the one built from this business’s own numbers; the others check it against what other companies sold for.
2Where you want to be
Everyone wants to maximize what their business is worth, even if they have no plans on selling the business any time soon.
Pick what “worth more” means to you. The plan is the same; what you measure it by changes.
Yearly operating profit (EBITDA)
The profit the business makes from its operations each year, before interest, taxes and accounting write-offs. It’s the pool an owner’s yearly payout comes from.

What the business is worth
The value a buyer would be paying for, before fees and taxes. You don’t have to be selling for this to matter: it’s the scorecard for everything else.
+$2.00M in what the business is worth
Weeks you could step away without the business slipping
A business that depends on its owner is worth less and is harder to enjoy. The same moves that raise the value move decisions and know-how off your desk.
Five times longer away, and the same +$2.00M in value

3The fastest path
Five moves, in the order they pay off.
The engine tests every lever in the business and keeps the five that add the most value soonest. The chart shows what the sample business is worth as each one is done; the table says what each move is and how you’ll know it’s working.
Month 36$5.93M+$2.00M from the plan
| The move | The measure: today → target | Adds to the value | Done by | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Raise prices a little each year instead of letting them slipAverage price, change per year | −1.5% → +1.0% | +$620k | Month 12 |
| 2 | Spend less of each sales dollar on overheadSales, admin and office costs, as a share of sales | 33% → 29% | +$509k | Month 24 |
| 3 | Keep more of each sales dollar after direct costsGross margin | 62% → 66% | +$448k | Month 24 |
| 4 | Win new customers fasterGrowth in paying customers per year | 7.6% → 9.0% | +$164k | Month 24 |

“Adds to the value” is how much more the whole business is worth once the move is done. Each is measured after the ones before it, so the five add up. Each figure is rounded to the nearest $1k, so their sum can differ from the total by a thousand dollars.
4Staying on it
A year later, the same engine runs again and shows what moved the value.
A year ago the sample business was worth $3.08M. Today it’s worth $3.93M. This value bridge shows where each dollar of the +$858k came from, so you can see what the work was worth.

Green bars add value. “Valuation method updates” is the engine’s own yearly update, shown separately so it’s never mistaken for your work. The scale starts at $2.5M so the steps are readable. Figures are rounded, so the steps can look a few thousand dollars off the two totals.
